Memorial Day is Just Around the Corner

Memorial Day is a more subdued holiday, dedicated to remembering the members of the United States armed forces who have died while serving their country. In spite of its more serious nature, this holiday is a wonderful opportunity to gather your friends and family together for a meal and some much-needed bonding. Since it's springtime, you can even host the meal and activities outdoors. Find out what you need to do to prepare for your Memorial Day gathering.

Uncover the Grill

If you haven't already used the grill this spring, now is the time to get it out of the shed or take off the protective cover that has shielded it during the winter months. Once you strip off the cover, do a quick check for spider nests or any pests that may have taken up residence in the shelter of the grill. You may also need to buy another tank of propane if you have a gas grill. Give the grill a quick cleaning and fire it up briefly to ensure that it is ready to cook up some delicious meat or veggies for Memorial Day.

Clear the Yard

Your outdoor space may still be suffering the effects of winter. Pick up the dead branches off the porch or deck, skim the leaves off the pool cover, and rake up any matted, dead grass, twigs, and other debris that may have collected on your lawn. If you have yard waste that you need to get rid of, contact Kurtz Bros., and we'll help you find an eco-friendly solution for it. In many cases, yard waste can be recycled.

Fill the Flowerbeds

Have you started planting yet? If you have bulbs installed in your flowerbeds, those tulips, daffodils, or other perennials are probably beginning to sprout and bloom. Think about adding some additional plants and flowers to the beds in your front yard and backyard. They're a welcome addition to the natural decor of your outdoor space.

Bring Out the Accessories

You probably put away some of your outdoor seating, your throw pillows, outdoor floor coverings, and decorative elements for the winter. A Memorial Day gathering is the perfect time to pull those things out of storage or buy new ones. Make sure that there is ample seating for all your guests, from practical seats at the picnic tables to cushioned, comfy seating under the pergola or around the fire pit.
